Topics

Speaking topics change to fit recent developments, but generally fit within the following areas.

  • FIDUCIARY DUTIES. The fiduciary duties of financial advisors under ERISA, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, and/or state common law, and recent federal/state regulatory developments impacting the regulation of RIAs and personal financial advisors.
  • YOUR FIRM’S DUE DILIGENCE MEMORANDUM. In April 2023 guidance from the SEC staff, for both RIAs and BDs, strongly suggested that documentation occur of each firm’s due diligence, as to the selection of both investment strategies and the specific investment products used to select those strategies. Ron provides perspective, and illustrates how a firm might adhere to this near-requirement.
  • SECURE ACT 2.0. The opportunities, and challenges, presented to financial advisors and their clients, arising from the December 2022 enactment of 91 tax different provisions affecting retirement plans, IRAs, and retirement planning.
  • MULTI-FACTOR INVESTING. New developments in multi-factor investing, and the use of multi-factor investment strategies in the design and implementation of investment portfolios.
  • ECONOMIC UPDATE. Implications of current and long-term macroeconomic developments and trends for endowments, foundations, individual investors and their advisers.
